Catfish on the chew

Seaforth Sportfishing 37 Anglers, 2 Boats, 4 Sheephead, 105 Rockfish, 1 Lingcod

The Sea Watch 1/2 Day AM run with 14 Anglers aboard returned to the dock with 4 California Sheephead, 62 Rockfish, 1 Lingcod in the gunnysacks

The long range boats have reported mostly slow but steady on the Yellowfin Tuna south of Cabo San Lucas. The Excel is still scratching fish to 200 lbs at the Hurricane Bank, while the Red Rooster III is heading north and due home Saturday with a decent load in the hold.

Private boaters that make it out there are still finding schools of Yellowfin, Skipjack and a few Bluefin Tuna on the banks within 100 miles of Point Fermin and Point Loma, and some Yellowtail on paddies.

The inshore fishing has been very good for Rockfish and Sheephead, with some Calico and Sand Bass, Lingcod, Yellowtail, Bonito and even a few White Seabass in the mix off the local kelp beds, high spots and canyons.

Lobster are being found in good numbers by the hoop-netters, with 10-15% of them legal sized when found.

In the tap water..

The jury is still out, but I am thinking the rain has helped spur the Trout bite in the area lakes in which they are stocked. With another front on the way and cooler nights, the water temp should slide back down to their comfort zone. Bass, especially off points in deeper water, are eating drop shot plastics or trout colored swim-baits. Catfish are also on the chew with the water still a bit warm and especially where there have been trout plants.

Go get 'em!
