SDMA Best World Music winners Tribal Seeds will launch Representing on May 2 at SDSU’s Open Air Theatre, before spending the summer on tour with New Kingston.
Folk-pop duo the Lovebirds recently signed with Big Picture Media for promotion and marketing of their third album, Breakup Shmakeup, dropping May 2 at Swedenborg Hall. The CD-release party for the Flower Animals’ Meximericana is Saturday, May 3, at the Ocean Beach Playhouse and Arts Center.
After being inactive for around two years, Monkeys in Space will drop Kill Your Past on May 9 at 710 Beach Club. In addition to the digital and CD releases, a vinyl version with different cover art includes the bonus track “Pretty Rock City.” Hot Nerds, featured as one of “100 Bands You Need to Know This Year” in the April issue of Alternative Press magazine, will release their Self Titled EP via Three One G on May 13, on the same day that Alyssa Jacey digitally releases her new album, Destined. “These songs are very bluesy and soulful, with hints of late ’80s pop,” Jacey tells the Reader.
Weight of the Sun will premiere their Commons album on May 22 at Amplified Aleworks, which will launch a new beer that night called Weight of the Saison. “Everyone who comes will get a co-branded pint glass, a pour of the beer, and the album,” says frontman David Martin.
The Casbah hosts Burning of Rome’s May 23 release party for Year of the Ox, produced by Butthole Surfer Paul Leary and Adam Traub (who wrote all the songs), with executive producer Dave Kaplan. The album features guest drummers Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle, NIN), Dale Crover (Melvins), and Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam, Of Montreal).
