A Carlsbad man came home to find that someone had stolen the paddleboard stored on his back patio, in the 4000 block of Adams Street, about mid-day on Friday, April 4.
The resident, identified as Glen, reviewed surveillance video from cameras around his home, and then he used still photos from that video to create “wanted fliers” featuring the man cutting through a cable and walking away with the board.
Glen put up the fliers around Agua Hedionda Lagoon and Snug Harbor Marina, in San Diego’s North County coastal community.
One week later, persons who worked in the area, at California Water Sports, believed they saw a man who looked like the person seen in the fliers. Police responded about noon and questioned 57-year-old Bradley Steven Lord.
The suspect appeared to be wearing the same yellow baseball cap, metal bracelet, and red shorts captured in both surveillance video and the photos featured in the wanted fliers.
Carlsbad police found a different stolen paddleboard in the back of the suspect’s truck that day, and that board was eventually returned to its owner in Oceanside. Some days later, police went to a storage unit rented by Lord and found four more paddleboards and one surfboard.
Lord was arrested on suspicion of grand theft with prior convictions for same. Lord has had four different criminal cases in San Diego County since 2007.
Public records suggest that Lord made a plea deal in the current theft case, was sentenced to local custody, and will be released in time for Christmas.
