Longtime Orange County Republican fundraiser Mike Schroeder, reputedly known as the "Dark Lord" of the statewide GOP, is one of the zombies intent on defeating democratic mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher.
An October 28 campaign disclosure shows the onetime California Republican Party chairman contributed $2000 to the anti-Fletcher committee "Zombies for Responsible Government Opposing Nathan Fletcher for Mayor 2013," the group's first and only donor.
Schroeder has a storied political past. This year, in January, he made headlines in Orange County after announcing he was splitting up with longtime wife Susan Kang Schroeder, who serves as the chief of staff for Orange County district attorney Tony Rackauckas. The divorce came months after the so-called "dark lord" was arrested for drunk driving in November of last year.
This from an article in the OC Register:
According to excerpts from a CHP report, Schroeder, 56, was observed weaving side-to-side and crossing into adjacent lanes while driving his Porsche south on the 55, just north of Edinger Avenue, about 3:20 a.m. Nov. 1.
Officer J. Kawanaka stopped Schroeder off the freeway, on MacArthur Boulevard. Kawanaka noted in his report that Schroeder had red and watery eyes, slurred speech and emitted a strong odor of alcohol. Schroeder was given field sobriety tests, which he did not perform satisfactorily, the report said.
Schroeder joins other Republican heavyweights in their quest to bury Fletcher and his chances at being elected mayor of San Diego.
