An alleged motorcycle thief in El Cajon landed first in an area hospital and then in jail after a brief and fruitless attempt to evade authorities Wednesday afternoon, November 6.
Per Lt. Rob Ransweiler, 42-year-old Daniel Christopher Allen was arrested on a host of charges, including auto theft, possession of stolen property, felony evading, willfully evading police, and hit-and-run after El Cajon police officers attempted to recover a stolen motorcycle from the 1000 block of Peach Avenue around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
After officers located and attempted to recover the stolen bike, Allen mounted the cycle and attempted to flee. In the process, he struck a responding police car as well as an officer on foot before reaching the road and heading west on Peach.
Officers gave pursuit, and Allen shortly collided with another police vehicle responding to the scene. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being released and booked into county jail.
The officer struck by Allen was treated for a broken hand and subsequently released from the hospital.
