An Oregon sex offender was arrested in Ramona on Thursday afternoon, October 31. The man reportedly harassed children and their parents at the Ramona Chamber of Commerce Main Street Trick or Treat event.
San Diego sheriff’s deputy Thomas Seiver first spotted the man, wearing white face-paint streaked with costume blood, approaching several of the estimated 750 to 1000 young children present.
After watching the man demand to hand candy to the kids over the objections of the children and parents (another witness claimed to have watched him dropping candy into children’s bags when they weren’t looking), Seiver called in assistance from on-duty deputy Jeff Guthrie.
Guthrie identified the suspect as Danny Shaw, a 29-year-old from Yucca Valley. A records check on Shaw revealed an Oregon conviction requiring him to register as a sex offender.
Shaw confessed that he had relocated from Oregon to California in February but for the past eight months had knowingly failed to alert authorities of the move.
Per Sgt. Brent Strahm, Shaw was arrested and booked into jail on charges of “felony sex offender registration violation and being a convicted sex offender in violation of annoying or molesting a minor under the age of 18.”
