Burton Raabe is a 67-year-old retired welder and counselor. He was in the Peace Corps in 1968 and ’69 in India and currently writes poems and stories with the support and encouragement of a writing group in Peoria, Illinois. He volunteers at a food pantry and visits prisons in Peoria. Raabe says that he has “been disturbed and alarmed by the creeping militarism and glorification of war in society” and thinks that “Bradley Manning may be the Jesus Christ of our age.” He is married to Lisa Nelson Raabe, an accomplished artist and yoga teacher.
