Ocean Beach isn't just for the hippies. They also have a large population of skaters.
I ran into these guys at Robb Field. I was expecting the guy on the right to have an Irish or English accent. His pale denim ensemble, braided belt, and demeanor screamed European. Turns out he is an average California kid.
When I asked the pair for their names they gave me absurd titles like Frank Hawk and Donovan Tripp. I guess there identities will remain a mystery.
I found semi-pro skater Eddie Day (on the right) and Maurice Thomas on Newport Ave.
27-year-old Day has been skating for 14-years and 20-year-old Thomas, for just over a year.
Day uses a Baker Board with Independent trucks and Bones wheels.
Thomas has a Creature board, and also uses Independent trucks and bones wheels.
I found Fungi on the boardwalk. He is a musician in local band Neo Pangea. His favorite article of clothing is the Rudrucksha seed necklace around his neck.
"I wear this necklace every day," he told me.
Fungi has a Santa Cruz board.
