Grace Ann Piano brings visual story of indigenous cultures to Queen Bee's
Artist and Detroit native Grace Ann Piano started her career in automotive engineering and business development.

Following what she calls a “turn of life event,” she found her passion for painting and “recreated herself” as a visual storyteller.
Today, her wall works are mostly oils on canvas or wood panels, while her murals employ acrylic and spray paints.
As a follow-up to her April premier of Denizens at Glashaus in Barrio Logan, she will be showing the series on Thursday, August 1 at Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center (3925 Ohio Street) in North Park from 7 to 10 p.m.
“The series is an attempt to archive the world’s indigenous cultures as we know them today,” says Grace Ann Piano.
“I wanted to represent their struggles to survive as distinctive societies but still be recognized as part of the human story. It is to bring awareness to the differences, the traditions, the unique way of life while integrating their energy into the complete consciousness. The installation will begin in Africa where we originated and then show the other peoples who have made their way, emanating from the center. It is through painting that I get to discover and understand people who I may not encounter in my life as my dream is to travel the world, have these cultures touch me directly and hopefully give something positive back.”
