Opening day at the Del Mar Racetrack was packed. True to San Diego form a wide variety of spectators were in attendance. There were young 20-somethings, the middle-age set, families with young children, tourists, and older folks. I saw women in high-end cocktail dresses paired with Jimmy Choo heels, men in leisure suits and bow ties, visitors in shorts and t-shirts, and people decked out in comic-con inspired garb. The one wardrobe piece nearly everyone had in common were hats.
I ran into a group KUSI staff members outside the Turf Club all sporting oversized hats in celebration of opening day at the races.
Brandi Williams hat was purchased from the Del Mar Hat Company while Leslie Lopez wore a Diana Cavagnaro hat which retail between $350-$900.
The ladies' favorite local stores include My Sister's Closet in University City and Mabel's in Solana Beach.
Nearby I found twin sisters and models Amy and Jessica Krieger. Both ladies wore hats by local designer Camille Wood. Their hats retail for around $155.
The twins were accompanied by friends Jessica Feigner and Lisa Maloney also wearing Camille Wood hats. The four ladies were selected to attend opening day through a modeling contest hosted by Dynasty Marketing and Event Makeup.
Nearby Carolina Stonehouse and Emilio Guerra waited in line to attend their first opening day.
Stonehouse wore a vintage dress purchased at a PB thrift store for $60 paired with a Zara clutch.
Friends Megan Sprang and Kathryn Cullen were also newbies to the opening day scene. Cullen wore a BCBG Max Azria dress and headpiece which retails for $58. Sprang wore a Karen Millendress and a pink hat from The Village Hat ShopThe Village Hat Shop in Hillcrest.
