Flying eastbound along Interstate 8 this Saturday morning of January 12, I could not help but notice the beauty of our East County with a light dusting of snow. It has been so cold (in the teens) out here that the water has frozen along the "beach" of this small, backcountry lake.
Initially identified in this report as Lake Morena, the pictured body of water turned out to be Corte Madera Dam, in the Cleveland National Forest. What threw me off is that, on Google Maps, the area is dry and an open green field.
Also noted during the flight was that El Capitan Reservoir and numerous small lakes in East County are full of water.
This shot was taken from approximately 1500 feet above the ground, from a Cessna 172 flown out of Gillespie Field.
