In honor of the Oscars, the Junior League of San Diego in partnership with Path of San Diego, put on a red carpet event at West Coast Tavern in North Park. It’s moments like these when I wish I had kept my prom dress. Instead I opted for a LBD and some heels and spent the night surrounded by women in gowns and tiaras.
Proceeds for the event went towards outfitting a beauty salon that will be located downtown, in the Connections facility, a 223 unit residential community designed to reduce street homelessness in downtown San Diego.
I ran into Amanda Katona and Courtney Barker upon my arrival. They were outfitting guests with VIP bracelets and Oscar voting ballots.
Courtney wore a leopard-print jacket from Nordstrom. Amanda wore a Badgley Mischka gown from www.renttherunway.com and earrings from local coffe shop/antique store Cafe Bassam.
“To rent a gown from Rent the Runway, it costs anywhere from $50-200. They give you a $50 gift card to use for your first rental. You keep it for four days, mail it back, and they even dry clean it for you,” Katona told me of her gown that would normally retail for upwards of $700.
At the bar I found Cox media manager Katie Rosenthal with 93.3 DJ Nathan Fast. You can catch Fast on 93.3 from 7pm-12am Monday-Friday. Katie wore an Infinite dress and Nathan wore an H&M tux.
“It took me 45 minutes to figure out a way to wear this dress with a bra,” she told me, “This is my bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding. Tonight is a trial run,” Rosenthal told me.
Infinite dresses are marketed to be worn dozens of different ways and to fit any body type. You can transform it into a halter gown, to a one shoulder sheath, to a cap-sleeve.
Before leaving I spotted Rachel Pugliese in a Nanette Lepore dress with a sweetheart neckline and Cynthia Ponce in a leopard-print Forever 21 dress.
Pugliese and Ponce both work in marketing. Rachel runs a Food/Travel blog on the side. Both ladies were hoping to see Argo win for Best Picture.
