The first edition of the San Diego Holiday Half Marathon is sold out. However, there will be additional spots up for grabs at Road Runner Sports this Saturday, December 28. The event will take place on Sunday, December 29, at 7:30 am.
This is a point-to-point race from Rancho Penasquitos to Torrey Pines State Beach. Participants will park at the finish and be bused to the starting point in PQ.
The course is a straight shot along the 56 corridor. Depending on the number of runners, things could get tight along the bike path there. This is a somewhat scenic route, but cars whizzing by on the 56 isn’t ideal.
There is also a fairly strict time limit on this event. Runners must be able to finish in three hours and 15 minutes. That means everyone must be moving at just under a 15-minute mile pace or better. This should be a fast course since there is a 700 foot elevation drop from start to finish.
There are several road closures in the area so be warned if you normally have Sunday morning business in the area.
