A 28-year-old woman of meager circumstances gave birth to a child in the Tijuana River canal on Monday, December 2.
The woman was first observed in a pool of blood. An informant tipped off police to the woman’s condition as she was on the verge of giving birth in the middle of the canal located near the Bridge of the Americas near Colonia Buena Vistas at around 11:00 a.m.
Soon, police emergency personnel and the Cruz Rojo team had gathered by the riverside to lend assistance to the woman. However, at the time of the emergency team’s arrival, the newborn female had expired and was found at the side of the woman.
After the infant was pronounced dead at Hospital General de Tijuana, the incident was reported to the Procuraduria General de Justicio del Estado, where the causes of the infant’s death, and legal culpability, will be determined.
