Speaking of Germans, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 is coming up this weekend at Symphony Hall.
The orchestra, conductor Ken-David Masur, and the San Diego Master Chorale are all familiar entities, but what about the soloists?
Soprano Measha Brueggergosman is a Canadian singer of such renown that she sang the Olympic Hymn for the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. She has previously sung the Beethoven Ninth with conductors such as Franz Welser-Möst, Daniel Barenboim, and Gustavo Dudamel.
Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Deshong is an up and coming singer. She went through the Chicago Lyric Opera Young Artists Program and is singing in opera houses and concert halls alike.
Tenor Robert Breault performed the tenor part in 2010 and returns to perform this taxing role.
Bass Richard Zeller also returns from the 2010 concert. Mr. Zeller has spent over a decade at The Metropolitan Opera and is featured on numerous recordings and videos.
The concerts are Friday and Saturday the 6th and 7th at 8:00 pm and Sunday the 8th at 2 p.m.
