Police and emergency personnel were called to the scene of an accident on Thursday, April 18, at approximately 4:50 p.m., after an elderly woman drove her car over the curb on the north side of University Avenue between Eighth and Ninth avenues.
Her car broke off a parking meter from its base and crushed the passenger side fender and headlight into a large palm tree. It was not clear if the driver was trying to pull in or out of the parking space.
EMTs determined the driver did not require any medical assistance. Police officers on the scene were completing what appeared to be citations.
