A six-man crew of youthful thieves stole 29 fishing rods valued at $20,000 from a private residence in Ensenada Thursday morning. The stolen rods were considered “pro-level” and were discovered at the group’s encampment in the Playas section of the popular tourist destination noted for its ocean sports fishing, and famous for its marlin and tuna catch.

The six youths, aged between 17 and 20 (Jesús Alejandro Ramírez Guzmán,18; Isaac Alberto Doña Penillas,18; Fabián Granados Guzmán,20; César Iván García,18; Omar Alberto López Angulo,18; Carlos Josué de la Torre Rubio, 18; and two minors, Alfredo and Alejandro, both 17.

The suspects were busted by authorities investigating the reported break-and-entry robbery of the house, after police found a service door to the domicile forced open and the interior of the home ransacked. Investigators followed a trail of clues leading to the seaside camping area where the youths had ensconced themselves. Upon initial questioning the six seemed devoid of culpibility, but they gave contradictory answers to pertinent questions – and then came the discovery of the 29 fishing rods at their campsite, plus two tripods, two pairs of high-powered binoculars and 22 bottles of liquor. In addition their three vehicles parked nearby contained fishing reels, spools of fishing line, imported cigars and a smoking pipe.

The captured “seaside-six” and their booty were turned over to the delegation of Policia de la Misión for processing.
