Empty since its closure after Junior Seau's suicide in early May, Seau's restaurant, on Sunday, September 9, reopened its doors, this time as a church.
Until a tenant takes over the space, Eastlake Church will hold Sunday services at the former Mission Valley mall eatery.
Channel 8 News reported about 500 people showed up for the first service. A Christian rock band performed, and parishioners watched a video of the main Eastlake Church service (filmed at the Chula Vista sanctuary on Otay Lakes Road) and lead pastor Mike Meeks.
The spirit of Junior and football did hang over the former sports restaurant, as many devotees wore Chargers jerseys.
