We gather together to greet the heirs
of John Thomas (JT) and Magnolia Scott (Maggie)
and celebrate their legacy of love
to our Afro-American beat

Tomás Gayton, born and raised in Seattle, Washington, was the grandson of African-American pioneers. Gayton is a world traveler and a civil rights attorney/teacher who defends juveniles in the criminal justice system. His poetry is his life in verse. His works appear in various publications and literary journals, and a new collection of his prose and poetry, centered on his recent world travels (Sojourn on the Bohemian Highway), is being prepared for publication by Poetic Matrix. Gayton’s most recent volume of poetry is Vientos de Cambio/Winds of Change, published by Poetic Matrix. “Family Reunion 2012” is printed by permission.
