The merge from the 2300 block of Midway Drive where it turns left to become southbound Barnett Avenue in Point Loma did not go so smoothly on the morning of Sunday, December 2.
At around 9:00 a.m., a white SUV got tangled up with a red VW convertible, sending the car spinning around backward and taking down the merge sign.
Immediately, MCRD police patrols responded as the accident was blocking sidewalk access next to the Marine base and potentially creating a security hazard for the heavily guarded military training facility.
San Diego police soon arrived and lit up their flashing lights to warn drivers away from the blocked lane. As the unlucky drivers paced back and forth while talking on their cell phones, passersby slowly drove by the scene, probably wondering how the red car got turned around. Neither driver seemed to be injured.
