The San Marcos Lions Club hosted their fifth annual Canine Capers Talent Show at Woodland Park on April 21, and a pair of newcomers took away the coveted Most Look-Alike trophy this year.

When asked if this was his first big contest win, 12-year-old José Ramirez said, “Yeah.” His five-year-old English bulldog Buches was not one to rest on his laurels; instead, Buches was seen straining at his leash most of the morning in the grassy park.

Terry Lamb, 62, tried not to be smug about sweeping grand prize in the Best Costume competition two years in a row. She said of her 5-year-old German Shorthair Pointer, “He won here last year; we came again to add to his trophy collection.” Her prize dog, named Code Four and reportedly another rescue dog, wore a crowd-pleasing “Party Dog” ensemble for the occasion.

Other categories included Cutest, Most Unusual Markings, and Best Trick. Vivian Lopez, a member of the San Marcos Lions Club, said about 40 dogs participated in the festivities.
