San Diego's Cardrooms Allowed to Add Tables
The San Diego City Council on October 18 unanimously approved the increase of tables from nine to eleven at the remaining two cardrooms in San Diego.
This proposal was sanctioned last August by the Bureau of Gambling Control at the California Department of Justice, stating that it “complies with applicable provisions of the Gambling Control Act.”
The two card-casinos are in the North Park and El Cerrito areas (council districts 3 and 7).
On July 27, the council's public safety and neighborhood services committee unanimously (4-0) had approved an amendment to the San Diego Municipal Code to increase the number of tables.
District 7 councilmember Marti Emerald previously requested that city attorney Jan Goldsmith and city treasurer Gail Granewich “review and update the cardroom fee structure” to reflect the increase in tables.
District 3 councilmember Todd Gloria expressed mild concern over parking.
The businesses are the Palomar Casino, located at 2724 El Cajon Boulevard, and the Lucky Lady Card Room, at 5526 El Cajon Boulevard.
Outside the Palomar, a customer said he didn't know how they could fit in two more tables. When I took a look inside, the room was indeed packed tight with tables.
