Boy Collides with Truck in Imperial Beach
At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, San Diego sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call to the alley between the 1200 block of 11th and Florida streets in Imperial Beach.
The driver of a white Ford Ranger pickup truck had reportedly stopped before exiting the alley, and her truck was hit on the passenger side by an 11-year-old boy who was riding his bike on the sidewalk. The boy flew off his bike, continued over the truck’s hood, and landed on the ground.
According to motorcycle deputy Rob Siegfried, “The boy admitted he was hauling ass and ran into the vehicle. The only thing he said he hurt was — in his words — his ‘’nads.’”
The boy was examined by paramedics before being released to his father. The father and the driver of the truck shook hands. The father said, “My boy is all right and that’s all that matters, but he won’t be riding his bike for awhile.”
Deputy Siegfried, who was asked if he had lectured the boy or the parent about the boy riding his bike without a helmet, responded, “In the old days, my partner and I used to bust kids all the time for not wearing helmets, but today the kids won’t wear them, the parents don’t care if they don’t wear them or they won’t buy the kids a helmet, and even if they do they won’t make the kids wear them.”
