Tourists heading to downtown TJ can say goodbye to two open-air taco stands on the pedestrian route that leads past the Yellow Cab staging area right next to the border. The restaurants cleared out in a couple of days sometime during the holidays, leaving behind some empty shells next door to the so-called “last chance” Caliente sports book.
The taco palaces, known as Tacos de Rincon and Tacos Mino, have been gutted of their tiled counters, tables, chairs, stoves, and cooking gear. The building itself is being razed and is to be replaced with a more modern structure, said the woman who makes tacos at the restaurant just across the way from the demolition-in-progress.
