A customer waiting in line at the Rite Aid store on Sunset Cliffs Boulevard fell backward onto the ground and lost consciousness on the afternoon of December 30.
According to a witness, after someone called 911, about seven minutes elapsed before emergency responders arrived. The responders spent about 15 minutes attempting to revive the man in the store before taking him to a hospital. When last seen, the man remained unresponsive.
At least one bystander was upset about the paramedics’ response time. “It took too long,” the woman said. “I’m calling Jerry Sanders about this.”
Another bystander said the man’s medical records indicated he was 50 years old. A representative of the San Diego Police Department said it did not have more information on what happened to the man.
