On Tuesday, August 30, at approximately 7:10 a.m., a man driving a Dodge minivan summoned police to a Vista gas station because he believed his front passenger side window had been destroyed in a random shooting.
The minivan was westbound on the SR-78 near Melrose Drive. When asked to confirm that it was a shooting, an on-scene CHP officer said, "It's possible. We are investigating now."
If the window was destroyed in a random shooting, the CHP officer does not believe that the shooter was on the overpass at the SR-78 and Vista Way, but rather on a side street.
The CHP officer emphasized that they were investigating, and that the county sheriff's office was the lead organization in the investigation.
