The Ocean Beach thoroughfare called West Point Loma Boulevard is also known as "Wreck Point Loma Boulevard" for the copious amounts of car accidents that occur there on a regular basis.
The morning of Thursday, August 4, around 8:00 a.m. found another fender-bender blocking all but one lane of the busy street. A red-haired woman driving a silver Toyota minivan with exploded airbags told me that she was "pulling out of the alley, when the other car didn't see her and hit her minivan." She appeared to be unharmed and told me the other driver did not require an ambulance either.
The alley she is referring to is very steeply graded and located between Mentone and Temecula Streets. The other car — a newer-looking maroon Honda Accent — ended up spinning out and received severe front end damage. A tow truck eventually appeared and took the ill-fated Honda Accent away.
Long-suffering residents of "Wreck Point Loma Boulevard" notched another one in their accident-tally bedpost.
