Captured in June of 2009, Canadian Arthur Leland Sayler was sentenced to eight years in a Mexican prison last week for operating a child-pornography business out of a rented Las Playas residence.
The prosecutor said that Tijuana’s Policia Cibernética (internet police) had brought a formal complaint against Sayler’s website in 2009. An investigation ensued and the website was traced to the residence of Sayler, who was 60 years old at the time.
Inside Sayler’s house, police found 15 hard drives loaded with over four million “kiddie porn” images, plus payment records, credit card numbers, and user account information. The site was accessed from all over the North American continent and contained material mainly involving female infants, girls, and adolescents.
Neighbors of Sayler said he was reclusive but appeared to be reserved and quiet when in public. He had lived at the beach for 15 years with a woman said to be his wife. Concern that students at a nearby school may have been victimized has diminished, since no complaints have been brought to the attention of authorities.
