During an October 5 San Diego City Council meeting, councilman Todd Gloria announced that an agreement had been made that will result in Hillcrest having more parking spots.
“The Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot on Normal Street has until now been closed to the public at night and on the weekends, further limiting the amount of free parking available in the area,” said Gloria. “Working closely with state senator Christine Kehoe, we have been able to conclude an agreement with the Department of Motor Vehicles for the delivery of 187 spots to the public outside DMV hours.”
Kehoe and Gloria have worked to ease parking difficulty in Hillcrest during the nights and weekends. The Hillcrest post office and the shuttered Pernicano’s restaurant lot on Sixth Avenue have recently offered a total of 68 spaces, but that amount does not meet the nighttime or weekend demand.
