At approximately 1:40 a.m. on March 13, La Mesa police responded to an audible alarm at an Enterprise Car Rental on the 8400 block of Center Street. Police arrived at the scene to discover that the perpetrators had already fled the scene.
According to a police report, a set of keys were found at the location that did not belong to the business. Upon investigation, the keys were matched up with a vehicle that was parked near the site of the burglary. Police were able to link the keys and vehicle with potential suspects.
That afternoon at around 12:30 p.m., two suspects were arrested during a traffic stop in connection with the robbery. La Mesa detectives identified the two suspects as brothers Jeffrey and Justin Gwin.
Detectives said that further evidence was collected when two search warrants were served at a motel room and a residence in La Mesa. The Gwin brothers were booked into county jail on one count of commercial burglary. Further investigation is being conducted to establish if the brothers were involved in other commercial robberies.
