On March 14 at around 3 p.m., a Toyota Avalon hit a fire hydrant in the parking lot of the Albertsons grocery store at the intersection of Marron Road and Cannon. The fire hydrant was knocked off its base, sending a plume of water into the air. After hitting the fire hydrant, the car veered across the parking lot and rammed the front of the Albertsons store.
The plume of water could be seen from SR-78, a highway north of Albertsons, according to an eyewitness. Another eyewitness stated that water had been jetting into the air for approximately 30 minutes before the valve was turned off.
Emergency services that responded to the incident included City of Oceanside police, a fire truck, and water department personnel. None of the immediate responders would comment on the accident.
