Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on July 25, an out-of-control truck hit two parked cars, slammed into another parked truck in a driveway, and ended up plowing into a garage on the 8100 block of Calico Street.
The gas meter was completely destroyed and the gas line severed, which then started a fire. The primary residence suffered major fire and structural damage, while the neighboring home sustained fire damage to the roof and exterior wall. The woman driver was pulled from the truck by bystanders and then taken for treatment.
Fire and SDG&E crews responded, controlling the blaze and capping off the gas lines. DUI was considered to be the cause. The occupants of both residences were uninjured. City officials red-tagged the building and declared it unsafe to enter. Building damages were estimated at $160,000.
