To see the sights of the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, start by driving on a winding, mountainous road through the lush greenery known as El Yunque in Puerto Rico.
If you can make it through the frighteningly narrow road and manage to miss those crazy Puerto Rican drivers coming at you, you’ll see a scene that looks like it came straight out of Jurassic Park (minus the dinosaurs).
It was a mission finding the trail we wanted to take, but it was definitely worth it. The well-paved trail with the occasional sheltered rest area along the way made it an easy trek to La Mina Falls less than a mile away. Make sure you brave the cold water to take pictures under the breathtaking 35-feet-tall waterfall – the mist hits you even before you reach the water!
