San Diego Sheriff Seeks $4526 Thermal-Eye

Mission Valley YMCA fails to meet a few compliance standards.
Mission Valley YMCA fails to meet a few compliance standards.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is in the market for an X150 Thermal-Eye pocket scope. According to one online vendor, which lists the device at $4526: “Whether performing critical missions, gathering intelligence or conducting situation analysis, our products perform when the stakes are high. Thermal-Eye infrared products support reconnaissance and surveillance efforts executed by police officers, military troops, SWAT teams and others performing tactical missions.”… The county Democratic Party paid $515.46 in airfare and hotel so its honcho Jess Durfee could go to Sacramento to attend the swearing in of the state legislature…The Mission Valley YMCA is in some hot water with city hall. After neighbors complained about too much noise coming from the Friars Road facility and alleged violations of its conditional-use permit, the City’s senior land development investigator Michael Richmond checked out the situation. “Our research and site inspections reveal that the location and use of the Soccer Field and play area are consistent with the approved building plans and amended CUP,” wrote Richmond on December 9. “The age of the children and the size of the play area are in substantial conformance with the CUP. However, the inspection revealed other violations of the CUP, including failure to comply with the required landscaping located on the rear of the property, outdoor storage violations, and unauthorized grading activity. In addition, modular buildings have been placed within the required off-street parking spaces and are currently being used as offices and classrooms without the required amendment to the CUP and required building permits. A Civil Penalty Notice and Order was issued to the responsible parties.” A YMCA spokeswoman says officials there have met with the City and “all the issues in the letter are being addressed.”
