During the April 20 city council meeting, council president Ben Hueso agreed to purchase a prepaid parking card from a downtown San Diego resident.
Brian Murphy purchased a prepaid parking card to use on downtown parking meters and has been trying to get a refund for the card since selling his car. According to Murphy he has been told by the parking authority they are unable to issue refunds for the prepaid parking cards.
“Nowhere on it does it say no refunds for the money I put into it. It does say ‘no refunds or replacement for lost or stolen cards.’ My card is not lost nor stolen…I don’t know where else to go,” said Murphy as he spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting. “I’ll buy it from you,” said Hueso, who immediately agreed to buy Murphy’s card for $17.80, the amount that was still left on the prepaid card.
As members of the audience erupted in applause, Murphy stated, “Thank you very much. That’s all I needed. You solved the problem!”
