Boom Boom Pow

The Black Eyed Peas opened their 17-song set with, appropriately enough, "Let's Get It Started," and the song got the job done, as it just got better from there.

Fergie was given the stage to herself to do three of her solo numbers. Ludracris joined her on stage for a performance of "Glamorous." Taboo played a show highlight when he came out from under the stage on a motorcycle and then was lifted into the air and suspended over the audience while he sang.

The star of the night, however, was Will.i.am. He did a long free-style solo made completely of lyrics provided by the audiences' text messages. He also came out in a futuristic robot outfit and played DJ for about 15 minutes, spinning tunes from other artists, including Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, and the Eurythmics.

The Peas had to deal with sound snafus while playing Dick Dale's "Misirlou" -- there was a minute where the trumpet and guitar players where both playing but nobody could hear anything. Then Fergie came out and started singing, but her microphone went out. Luckily, they got the problem fixed in time for their roof-raising encore songs, "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling."

  • Concert: Black Eyed Peas
  • Date: April 3
  • Venue: San Diego Sports Arena
  • Seats: Loge 17B, Row 9, Seat 4
