At 2:15 Saturday morning, September 26, the 905 freeway was temporarily closed at the eastbound transition with Interstate 805 south after a horse was discovered walking west in the eastbound lanes.
Zero visibility due to heavy fog gave the responding officers concern that a car in merging traffic might hit the animal. San Diego police dispatchers notified the California Highway Patrol and animal control of the situation.
The SDPD officer at the scene of the incident followed the horse on the south shoulder of the freeway with overhead lights flashing. An officer described the horse as calm.
Another officer arrived at the scene a half hour later with carrots, an apple, and a rope. The horse was roped and tied to a pole west of Interstate 805 at 2:51 a.m. awaiting transport by animal control.
