A counselor from the 32nd Street Naval Base contacted the San Diego Police Department at about 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, regarding a “check on welfare call” in connection with a sailor who did not return to base.
The counselor told a police dispatcher, “The 22-year-old male was supposed to return to base today, but failed to return. He was distraught over a recent breakup.” It was reported that he was driving a red vehicle with Virginia license plates.
San Diego police discussed whether to call the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) office at the base to get more information about the sailor. No other information was available.
