The third effort from Baltimore foursome All Time Low finds the band struggling to establish credibility in the saturated pop-punk market. Lead single "Weightless," like a majority of the record, is by-the-numbers upbeat power pop. "Therapy," the exception in the collection, is an introspective ballad and an example of how the writing and production on Nothing Personal is more ambitious than prior efforts. However, the album ultimately lacks the hooks and hits of 2007's So Wrong, It's Right.
This is a solid, energetic effort with a few standout tracks but nothing groundbreaking. While the influence of predecessors New Found Glory and blink-182 is evident, ATL has managed to create a sound of their own.
The songs here seem to be aimed at those who have graduated from Disney rock but who have not yet left for college. For the older listener, it's a flashback to the '90s Warp tours, a present-day guilty pleasure to sing along to when alone in the car. Fans of the genre will have nothing to complain about. Standout tracks include "Weightless," "Sick Little Games," and "Therapy."
