According to a press release from the San Diego office of the Customs and Border Protection agency, two Mexican nationals involved in human smuggling were apprehended by CBP officers early Tuesday morning, October 13, about eight miles off the La Jolla coast.
Border Patrol agents who were patrolling the shoreline near La Jolla spotted the boat at about 3:30 a.m. and requested air and marine interdiction agents to investigate the boat.
The agents intercepted the boat and determined the two men onboard were Mexican nationals who were in the U.S. illegally. It was subsequently learned that the men had smuggled six people into the country and dropped them off at South Ponto Beach in Carlsbad.
The two men, aged 29 and 44, were arrested and turned over to Border Patrol agents for processing.
Later Tuesday morning, Border Patrol agents apprehended two illegals who admitted to being part of the group that was dropped off at the beach. CBP officers are looking for the four other people involved and are continuing their investigation.
