Big beachfront renovations have begun in Las Playas de Tijuana. The ancient breakwater is being rehabilitated with new pedestrian walkways to accommodate surfers, swimmers, and beachcombers. About 600 feet of walkway is being shored up and resurfaced, plus a retro-style boardwalk is being constructed along the littoral.
Municipal honcho Carlos Ceseño Gámez said that years of accrued damage to the walkways will be repaired with a more resilient material that will require less maintenance.
Every year during the rainy season, the breakwater takes a beating, and much of its infrastructure needs replacement in order to ensure the safety of beachgoers and residents in the area. New lighting will illuminate the beachside walkways.
