U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry arrested five wanted fugitives between 6:00 a.m. Sunday and 6:00 a.m. Monday, November 23. Included in the roundup was a man wanted for homicide in Kern County, California.
According to a press release from the CBP agency, 21-year-old Arturo Becerril entered the San Ysidro border station as a pedestrian at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday. The officer interviewing the subject developed information that Becerril was wanted and escorted him to a secondary area for processing. A subsequent investigation revealed that Becerril was wanted on an outstanding warrant for homicide in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred in Arvin, California, on September 2, 2009. He also was wanted by the California Department of Corrections for a parole violation. Becerril, a U.S. citizen, is a resident of Lamont, California. He was arrested and booked into the San Diego County Central Jail.
The other fugitives captured by CBP officers at the San Ysidro border crossing, all U.S. citizens, included a 25-year-old female wanted for battery, a 25-year-old female wanted on a drug charge, and two males (ages 36 and 34) who were wanted on probation violations.
