“We just want to remind you about the Membership Challenge that is still taking place!” says a recent email from the operation, dubbed the “Southwest Border Civic Network.” “This gives you the opportunity to spread the word about Our Border. Whoever invites the most people will WIN a Border Patrol hat signed by [Homeland Security] Secretary [Janet] Napolitano! We have already had 82 new members join the Our Border network since the contest started.” The contest ends December 8 … San Diego district attorney Bonnie Dumanis is helping launch her reelection bid with a campaign fund-raiser in the form of a “Holiday Cocktail Reception” on Tuesday, December 15, at the home of Sandy Shapery, located in a luxury apartment in the Shapery Emerald Plaza Building on Broadway across from the courthouse. Backers, according to a recent email, include Sheriff Bill Gore, waging his own election battle, San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders, city attorney Jan Goldsmith, and city councilman Kevin Faulconer.
