Take a stroll through Pacific Beach, and you’re likely to encounter just a few too many empty food containers, cans, bags, party flyers, bottles, and cigarette butts.
“On a good day we probably remove between 100 and 150 pounds of trash from the streets and gutters of Pacific Beach,” said P.B. town council president Rick Oldham.
In an effort to combat the growing littering problem in Pacific Beach, the council recently launched a beautification campaign called “Clean PB.”
“The idea is to catch the attention of a younger demographic,” said Oldham.
The new campaign will feature 8x10 posters on bar windows and trash receptacles (e.g., “Found” next to a picture of some trash). Other posters contain slogans such as, “Back that trash up,” “I’m having your litter,” and “Use me.”
Town council members plan to pass out flyers with statistical information such as number of yearly visitors and number of trashcans in the area. They will also hand out free cloth bags with T-shirts that read, “Let’s Talk Trash.”
The town council will continue to host monthly cleanups on the first Saturday of every month and are always looking for more community participation. For more information, cleanpb.com, or call the Pacific Beach Town Council at 858-483-6666.
