At approximately 9.15 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, as an M.T.S. Blue Line trolley en route to Old Town arrived at the Civic Centre stop, commuters onboard were forced to evacuate the train as smoke poured from underneath the front of the lead car.
No sign of a fire was evident, but a passenger noticed the smoke and gave warning to fellow passengers. Everyone disembarked in an orderly manner.
Around 100 passengers waited for the damaged train to be taken away so they could continue on with their journeys.
