The City of Rosarito intends to become the second city in Mexico to have a beachfront with a clean bill of health. So far, only Playas el Chileno in southern Baja has passed the test for certification under the international standards of NMX/AA/120SCFI qualifications.
The half-mile stretch of beach between the Rosarito Beach Hotel and Abelardo Rodriguez Park will be chemically and biologically monitored for three months as part of the inquiry into fitness for certification.
Tests include those for the detection in seawater of streptococcus bacteria and for toxic residues in the beach sand.
