At approximately 7 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28th, 2009, a lifeguard discovered a 28-foot vessel abandoned at the edge of the surf in the Torrey Pines area close to Tower 7. Local agents followed tracks in the sand that led from the boat to North Torrey Pines Road but were unable to find any suspects. It is believed that the boat had been left by smugglers who had brought undocumented immigrants from Mexico into the United States. This is not the first occurrence of its kind in this area. Two similar incidents took place just last week elsewhere along the San Diego coastline.
