On Saturday, January 24, 2009 the San Diego Unified School District held a Magnet Schools Fair at the Recital Hall in Balboa Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The fair provided information regarding educational options to parents of school-age children.
There were 32 magnet and various alternative programs represented at the fair. Sandy Robles, Office of Enrollment Options Manager, said, “This is all about choice and letting parents know that there are school options. Some people like to send their kids to their neighborhood schools, others want alternatives.” Carolyn Goohs, Magnet Programs Manager, added, “There are many benefits to sending your child to a school of choice where the curriculum is innovative and builds upon the passion and interests of the students, and you can’t always get that at your neighborhood school.”
Maneuvering through the exhibits was effortless thanks to the highly energetic and well-informed volunteers from San Diego Leads High School (pictured). This was the first Magnet Schools Fair in approximately 15 years, but you can be sure it won't be the last as educational trends continue to evolve.
