Crash at 9th Avenue and E Street

— On Saturday, January 10 at 11:10 p.m., at the corner of 9th Avenue and E Street, a white Mercedes Benz crashed into a grey Nissan Altima, causing the Nissan to smash into the corner of the Library Lofts. Two ambulances arrived at the scene, but nobody was seriously injured. Witness Adam Rowell said he was unsure who was at fault but that one of the two cars ran a red light. “This is a pretty common theme for this intersection,” said Rowell, having lived on the corner of 10th Avenue and E Street for the last six years. “People either run a red light here or they’re going the wrong way on one of these one-way streets. Happens at least once a month.”

Police, firefighters, and paramedics were all on the scene in a timely manner said witness Jennifer Delago, who has just recently moved into the downtown area. Several other onlookers were also present, including a large number of homeless people. The homeless have been camping by the main library and the post office that share this intersection for many years now and have seen plenty of car accidents during that time. E St. feeds directly into Interstate 5 and runs along a very dark corridor in downtown. The street is home to several small businesses and unfortunately isn’t one of the safer streets in downtown.
