About a hundred families at the Hollywood Palms Apartment Complex on Home Avenue may have a dismal Christmas thanks to a real-life Grinch who broke into a storage area at the complex sometime this week and made off with bags of toys.
Xochiti, the resident’s community leader who had been collecting the toys, stated, “We were in shock. I’m not sure what I’m going to do.” The gifts were meant for more than 100 children of the complex whose parents are struggling; 25 of the families, according to Xochiti, have parents who have lost their jobs.
“They took closed bags filled with kids’ toys, we looked in and it was gone. The police are investigating and talking to neighbors to see if anyone saw anything.”
News of the theft was posted on the Craigslist website on Thursday, December 10, and Xochiti reports that “People have been coming in the rain bringing us things.”
Anyone wanting to help can contact the property management of the Hollywood Palms Apts. at 619-255-0649.
